Practicing Clinicians

Concordant Rater Systems has a team of over 20 practicing clinicians who speak several foreign languages. Dr. Claudia Baldassano and Dr. Robert Knauz lead the team.

Claudia Baldassano, M.D.
Clinical Lead

Dr. Baldassano received her training in Psychiatry (1995) and Neurology (1998) at Massachusetts General Hospital. She completed fellowship training at the Harvard Bipolar Program before joining the University of Pennsylvania in 2000.

Dr. Baldassano is currently Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania where she is Director of the Bipolar Outpatient Program. Her research interests are in treatment refractory bipolar depression and women’s issues in bipolar disorder.

She participated as Co- Principal Investigator at the University of Pennsylvania site of the National Institute of Mental Health sponsored “Systematic Treatment Enhancement Program for Bipolar Disorder” (STEP-BD), and is currently a co-investigator of the LITMUS study, an NIMH sponsored study to evaluate lithium treatment.

Dr. Baldassano has a NARSAD grant to evaluate the risk of osteoporosis in women with bipolar disorder. She is well published and has authored numerous manuscripts in the field of bipolar disorder.

In addition to her research, Dr. Baldassano has won numerous teaching awards while at the University of Pennsylvania, including her most recent receipt in 2007 of the Martin Szuba Award for Translating Clinical Research to PGY-III and IV Residents.

Robert O. Knauz, Ph.D.
Clinical Lead

Robert O. Knauz, Ph.D., has over 15 years of experience as a clinical psychologist and researcher. Currently, he is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, a Clinical Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston and the Clinical Coordinator at the Behavioral Medicine Service at MGH.

Dr. Knauz’s expertise and instruction is sought after on both a national and international level for training physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and other clinicians on how to accurately diagnose psychiatric disorders and precisely assess the symptoms of those disorders.

In the past, he has served as the co-principal investigator on two NIMH and HRSA funded grants, examining the effectiveness of a novel treatment to reduce secondary rates of HIV infection. He has an extensive clinical background in Bipolar Disorder in addition to Behavioral Medicine. He participated as a clinician in the Systematic Treatment Enhancement Program for Bipolar Disorder (STEP-BD) that examined the efficacy of several psychological treatments for Bipolar Disorder.

Dr. Knauz currently trains and supervises psychologists and fellows on all outcome assessments for the Behavioral Medicine Service. He has an active clinical practice at MGH with a particular interest in Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, and the effects of psychiatric symptoms on health care outcomes in cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Knauz is actively engaged as a consultant with Concordant Rater Systems, where he is devoted to research training and the accurate use of assessments to measure mood and anxiety disorders.

Dr. Knauz received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and completed his post-doctoral training in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
